Most of us want to be a better person-whether at home, in the office, or just when we’re out running errands. The problem is where exactly do you start? I realized a couple years ago that I was a jerk at times to people I worked with and to people
Think Before You Speak
Words can carry a lot of weight
- Take a couple extra seconds to think about the impact of your words before you say them out loud
- Remember the first time your significant other told you that they loved you? How awesome did that feel?
- However, words can also be hurtful
Be a Hero
Help an elderly neighbor with groceries
Stop Being Wasteful
Reduce water usage by taking shorter showers, and create less trash by recycling.
- Unplugging devices when not in use can save electricity, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
- Doing your part, no matter how small, can be really important for the environment.
Don’t Be Impatient
Practice patience.
Address Your Weaknesses
Make a list of your weaknesses and set goals to work on them
Stop Pointing Fingers
In the words of author and motivational speaker Jack Canfield: “Remember, you and you alone are responsible for maintaining your energy.”
- Part of life is growing and becoming a better person-each and every day. What steps are you working on to improve your life?
Take Care of Yourself
Exercise, eat healthy, get enough sleep, and prioritize your health and well-being
Pay Attention to Others
Follow up with important events and follow up on those you need to, even if it’s just to remind yourself of them later
Embrace Change
Be open to trying new things, even if they scare you.
- Advocate for positive change, like starting a food drive or recycling program at the office, which will both make your community a better place and help you grow as an individual.
Do the Right Thing
As an adult, you should know the difference between right and wrong.
- You don’t need someone to remind you that you should clean up the mess. You know that it’s your responsibility and that it’s not fair to leave it there for someone else to step in.
Forgive Yourself and Others
Humans make mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes sting.
