Why do we need storytelling?
Know the magical science behind storytelling
Meet Rob Walker. He conducted an experiment called the "significant object study." In this experiment, he bought 200 objects from eBay for an average price of about $1 each. He then asked 200 authors to write a story about one of the objects. After adding the stories to the objects, he sold them back on eBay. One of the objects, a horse's head bought for 99¢, was later sold for $62.95 after the story was added, showing a 6395% increase in value.
In total, he bought 200 objects for $129 and sold them for $8000. That is, 6100% profit!
What changed? Well, the objects with stories fetched 6595% more than just the objects !
Were people buying the object or..the stories?
