Researchers have classified AI into seven categories; you may be disappointed to learn that we’ve only realized three of them so far! In this video, Master Inventor Martin Keen lays them out, from narrow AI we know and enjoy today to the other extreme, super AI, which may have superior emotional and intellectual intelligence than humans… someday (?)
Types of AI Based on Capabilities
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been classified into three types based on capabilities.
These include the Artificial Narrow AI (weak AI) that is trained to perform specific tasks, the theoretical concept of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI or strong AI) that can perform new tasks without human intervention using previous learnings, and the concept of Artificial Super AI that could potentially possess superior cognitive abilities.
Super AI would think, reason, learn, make judgments and possess cognitive abilities that surpass those of human beings. – Unknown
Functional-Based AI Types
AI can also be categorized based on functionalities into four types.
Reactive Machine AI analyzes data to execute specialized tasks.
Limited Memory AI recalls past events and applies current data for decision-making.
The Theory of Mind AI comprehends human thoughts and emotions, while Self-Aware AI is conceptualized to understand its own conditions and possess personal emotions, needs, and beliefs.
