Gua Sha is a new skincare tool in town! You may have already spotted your favourite celebrities, influencers, and YouTubers using it in their beauty routines. Here’s what you need to know about it before hopping onto it yourself.

Gua Sha

A flat tool made of semi-precious stone that is used to massage the face.

  • Gua means to stroke or press, and Sha refers to redness.
  • According to early practitioners, the redness that is obtained through scraping encourages the skin to heal itself.
  • The modern-day practice is less intense but leaves you with a well-sculpted face.

How to Use Your Gua Sha?

Before using, wash your tool with soap and cleanse your face and apply any serum, face oil or moisturiser of your choice.

  • Hold your tool firmly in the correct way. The curved part should hug the curves of your skin and the flat part should rest on your skin.
  • Begin by using the wider concave side of your tool to pull up the skin at the base of your well-moisturized neck, pulling it up towards your jaw, then move to the front of your neck, making the same upward upward movement.
  • Repeat this a few times and follow the same movement on the other side.

Gua Sha on Serum or Oil

In the day, apply whatever your skin is more comfortable with – may it be a serum, face oil, or a moisturiser.

  • Avoid using it on bare skin, as it will result in rashes and irritation.

How to Clean and Store Your Gua Sha
